    LOCAL COUNTS // NOT DISCOUNTS

    LOCAL COUNTS // NOT DISCOUNTS

Local Counts / Not Discounts: We’ve been supporting this message for a number of years now and just to let all our customers, followers and friends know, we will not be following suit with week long Black Friday offers at Strong Island Clothing Co. If you have made a purchase recently (and we thank everyone that has stayed true to local independent shopping) you will not be disappointed by a sudden flurry of discounts that would devalue your purchase.

We will also stand firm at full price during the whole Christmas period, so rest assured anything you have bought will not all of a sudden be discounted running up to Christmas Day. We will though still have our annual end of range and sample sale in January to help make way for new product in the new year and give people the chance to grab some great priced products, but of course this sale always includes odd sizes, seconds, sample products and one off items we didn’t put in to production.

We hope you understand as we feel it is integral for many small businesses to stand their ground and not devalue their business or brand with routine sales and offers.

The first weekend of December also marks national Small Business Saturday. It's not easy to run a small business and the support from local communities means more than most people might realise. From the smallest one off purchase, to becoming a repeat customer, small businesses can thrive with local support. Take your time this season when you're out and about as there are dozens of amazing independant shops, markets and even online retailers within Portsmouth & Southsea alone.

Thanks for your ongoing support as always. Especially during the Christmas season. It means a lot all of us at Strong Island.

    STRONG ISLAND // 2019 CALENDAR

    STRONG ISLAND // 2019 CALENDAR

PRE-ORDER ONLY: This year saw an unprecedented amount of entries for our Strong Island 2019 Calendar. With over 1600 photos submitted it was most certainly a daunting task to select 35 images to design the final calendar. No easy task I can assure you, but the result is something we are really proud of. With a fantastic selection of new and familiar entrants, our 2019 Calendar features a broad range of professional and amateur photographers including the highest amount of phone photography to date.

A proportion of each calendar sale will be donated to the Portsmouth Hospitals Charity in support of local Strong Islander and prolific photographer Johnny Black.

He is fund raising for all the amazing help he received at QA Hospital, Portsmouth when being diagnosed with lung cancer just months before his wedding. Johnny & Martine are raising money as part of their ‘alternative wedding’ list and we wish to help in any small way we can. You can also donate directly via the following link HERE.

Our 2019 Calendar features photos from the following people: Alex Lombardi, Andrew Malbon, Benjamin Atkins, Callum Skene, Charlotte de Quatrebarbes, Christine Matchett, Doug Howell, Gemma Stoneman, Grzegorz Kopacz, Hannah Wilson, Howard Hurd, Ian Pears, Johnny Black, Lisa Mundy, Michelle Lucocq, Ollie Denny, Russell Leggatt, Sarah Marston, Shaun Roster, Sheila Mackie, Todd Lawton and Tom Goss.

Each calendar is printed on 300sgm (350gsm Cover) Fedrigoni Arcoprint. This wood-free paper has a high-tech, cool white base guaranteeing excellent printability and is held in very high regard in publishing and printing industries. The guys at RIPE certainly delivered with this paper stock. It not only looks amazing as the print finish is second to none, and it feels really premium. Using an in-house HP Indigo 7800 digital press it sets the standard for premium quality digital print. Using liquid ink rather than dry toner powder, the print quality is on par with traditional lithographic printing with the benefits of less waste, which is of course great news for the environment.

There is a very limited run and we always sell out, so please be quick to avoid disappointment. We hope to have physical copies available for collection, delivery and in-store by the start of November. We will update with further information as soon as possible. Please note the following images are visuals only.

    STRONG ISLAND // 2018 CALENDAR

    STRONG ISLAND // 2018 CALENDAR

This year we have another strong selection of photos from names that will be familiar to Strong Island followers, such as David Tuckwell, Johnny Black, Andrew Malbon, Billie CawteRebeka Ashton and Howard Hurd. There are also first time inclusions from Christine Matchett, Tom Goss, Tony Wallace, Josh Holgate and Christopher Gambs. Of course a Strong Island Calendar wouldn’t be complete without Jon Neil, the only photographer to have been featured in every edition so far!

A proportion of the profits from the calendar will again be going to the Alzheimer’s Society‘s Portsmouth based services. They are the UK’s leading care and research charity for people living with dementia and their carers.

    NEW AUTUMN RANGE LOOKBOOK

    Strong Island Clothing Co

We've been out exploring the dark and deserted alleyways and streets of the historic Spice Island in Old Portsmouth, once the home of wayward sailors and smugglers. Focusing our latest lifestyle shoot around the cold and dark autumn evenings ahead.

Our new autumn clothing range has officially launched in-store and online. We’re pretty stoked about it if we do say so ourselves. As always our continued drive is to deliver quality products that not only meet our own high standards, but also offer you something you can be proud to wear. We’ve been working hard to bring you something fresh this season with new designs, reworked autumnal colours and softer fabrics. Maintaining excellence with all our embroidery, labelling and details and of course, high quality hand screen printed designs.

The new men’s and women’s range features long sleeve tees (with soft cotton fitted styling for women), premium crew sweatshirts and hoodies finished with custom woven labels. Embroidered chambray shirts with our signature rope design, two new canvas rucksacks in a classic backpack style and a drawstring duffel, both finished with embroidered patches and reflective zip pulls, not forgetting the all new seasonal colours and designs for our popular tee collection.

Our latest design ‘Late Nights & High Tides’ features across the men's and women’s range, including the men's long sleeve tee in a striking grey and yellow print.

It has to be said though that our favourite piece is the new addition of our appliqué ‘STRONG’ and ‘ISLAND’ sweatshirts for men and women. It’s something we have wanted to do for years and the finish is exceptional. Using traditional application techniques on to new super soft sweatshirts they have to be seen to be appreciated.

This isn’t the end though, we have more to come this season in a series of capsule runs including beanies, jackets and our latest range of homeware and accessories.

No.87 / FROM DUST TILL DAWN

No.87 / FROM DUST TILL DAWN

Having spent an amazing two and half years at our original bricks & mortar location on Highland Road the last thing we expected was to be moving any time soon. They say things happen for a reason, and when the opportunity to have a look at No.87 Marmion Road ahead of going on the market we jumped at the chance of taking it on as our new home. Well, we had a few beers first, but it didn't take long to make a decision.

We gave ourselves a 4 week period to strip out and refit the new shop and it was all hands on deck drafting in friends, family and our team of awesome shop fitters, painters and sign writers. We worked well in to the night before we opened the doors at 10am on May 6th 2017.

The end result is something we couldn't be happier with. Not just the finish of the shop fit, but the location. Situated at the east end of Marmion Road in the heart of Southsea, we're in good company with some amazing independent shops as our new neighbours.
